About Us
The Magnetic Midwest Region of the National Black Law Students Association ("MWBLSA") is a duly registered regional administrative jurisdiction under the National Black Law Students Association ("NBLSA"). NBLSA was founded in 1968 with the mission to increase the number of culturally responsible Black and minority attorneys who excel academically, succeed professionally, and positively impact the community. The purpose of MWBLSA is to articulate and promote the educational, professional, political, and social needs and goals of Black law students in the Midwest.
MWBLSA comprises chapters in the following states: Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, South Dakota, Wisconsin, and Wyoming. With our region spanning 14 states, comprising 44 law student chapters and 7 pre-law chapters, and with over 1,500 student members, we are the largest region in NBLSA.

- Moot Court & Mock Trial Competitions | Wednesday-Friday, February 18-20, 2026
The MWBLSA Moot Court & Mock Trial Competition brings together law students to compete in simulated court proceedings, showcasing their advocacy, legal reasoning, and public speaking skills. Participants argue before legal professionals in both appellate and trial formats, gaining hands-on experience and networking opportunities in a competitive, real-world setting. - Chair's Reception | Thursday, February 19, 2026
The Chair’s Reception is a distinguished gathering held during the MWBLSA Convention, offering attendees an intimate opportunity to connect with national and regional leadership, alumni, and key supporters of the organization. Hosted by the Chair, this reception celebrates the year's accomplishments, acknowledges the dedication of our members, and sets the tone for the weekend’s events. - Pre-Law Symposium & Law School Fair | Friday, February 20, 2026
The Pre-Law Symposium & Law School Fair is designed to equip aspiring law students with the tools, knowledge, and connections needed to navigate the law school journey successfully. The Symposium features workshops and panels led by law students, faculty, and legal professionals covering topics such as the admissions process, LSAT preparation, personal statement drafting, and financing a legal education.
Following the Symposium, the Law School Fair provides direct access to admissions representatives from law schools across the country. Attendees will have the opportunity to learn more about individual programs, ask questions, and build relationships that support their pathway to law school. - Alumni Reception | Friday, February 20, 2026
The Alumni Reception is a special gathering that brings together past and present members of MWBLSA to celebrate our shared legacy and foster lasting connections. The Annual Gala is the signature celebration of the MWBLSA Convention, bringing together members, alumni, partners, and supporters for an evening of recognition and inspiration. This black-tie event features the announcement of Chapter of the Year, honors the achievements of our competition winners, and highlights distinguished voices through our keynote speakers. The Gala not only celebrates excellence within our organization but also provides a space to reflect on our shared mission, connect across chapters, and look forward to the future of leadership in the legal profession. It is the culminating event of the Convention—where achievement, community, and vision come together.
