Welcome Message from the 59th Regional Chair
Dear Magnetic Midwest Region of the National Black Law Students Association (MWBLSA),
I am Devonte King, a rising 3L at the University of Michigan Law School and I am excited to serve as your 59th Midwest Regional Chair for the 2026-2027 term. I hope this message finds you well, whether you are excited about entering a new chapter of becoming a law student or recovering from a busy finals period.
In the midst of unprecedented times, I am dedicated to making sure that I am a zealous advocate for Black law students throughout the Midwest. For this reason the theme for MWBLSA 59 is S.T.R.E.N.G.T.H. (Standing Together to Rise, Empower, Nurture, Grow, and Thrive Harmoniously). Being a proud alum of Howard University helped me understand the importance of organizations like BLSA to not only advocate for ourselves but to uplift the communities we occupy.
One of my goals this year is to build bridges and cultivate a culture of strength through unity amongst us. I look forward to leading a board full of equally passionate law students that want to not only defend our space within our law schools and beyond but also want to continue to push open the door of opportunities. Despite the challenges that have presented themselves to our community, I know that if we come together we can achieve amazing things not only for our benefit but for future generations of Black students. My goal is to keep my ears close to our local chapters to help address issues they are facing and provide support.
MWBLSA can only be as strong as the members within this amazing community. Even in the conversations I have had at this year’s convention there is a consensus that we have the minds and the will to do amazing things. I will work tirelessly to be a conduit to the desire for greatness within our region and I look forward to working with you all!
With Gratitude,
Devonte King
